Tallulah Drew

Tallulah Drew is a Welsh poet and doctor whose work often stems from small observations and tiny details that quietly reveal much bigger stories. Her poems move between humour and tenderness, exploring the odd and beautiful business of existing. Poetry first began to surface when she was in primary school in Pembrokeshire, where some of her early work won national awards.

She later won the Chair for Welsh poetry and the Crown for English poetry at her secondary school’s Eisteddfod several times, including one year where she became the first student to win both.

She then went through medical school and, as medicine does, it gradually took its toll. Somewhere along the way she stopped writing altogether.

Almost a decade later, after a late diagnosis of autism and a subsequent period of burnout, poetry found its way back to her. She believes her poems write themselves, and she just wasn’t listening before. These days she listens for the small surprises that appear when you slow down enough to notice. Her work is curious and reflects the absurdity and complexity of being a human.

When she is not writing or working in the hospital, you may find her in the garden keeping her hands busy, or looking up to see whatever the sky might be saying.
